Greece signs three type 214s
Article Abstract:
Hellenic Shipyards has been awarded a contract by the Greek Ministry of Defense for the construction of three Type 214 submarines. The deal is worth Dr430 billion and the ships would be delivered 60, 85 and 96 months from the start of the contract. The submarines have a submerged displacement of 1,860 tons, can cruise for 50 days, eight torpedo tubes and an air-independent propulsion/fuel cell module. They would also be equipped with ISUS-90 combat systems, Zeiss periscopes and STN Atlas Elektronik torpedos.

Greece signs US$1.4 billion contract for 32 Mirage 2000s
Article Abstract:
Greece has signed a contract for the purchase of 15 new Mirage 2000-5 Mk2 fighter aircraft from a consortium of French companies led by Dassault Aviation. The contract also calls for the supply of 200 MICA AAMs, distributed equally between radar-guided and infrared-guided versions, and 56 SCALP-EG air-launched cruise missiles, armed with HE warheads. The new aircraft will be operated by the 114th Combat Wing at Tanagra Air Base.

Greece will buy 50 new F-16C/Ds
Article Abstract:
Lockheed Martin Corp is finalizing the sale of around 50 F16C/D Block fighter aircraft to Greece. The contract also specifies upgrading of 36 current F-16 Block 30s to the Block 50 + standard. Lockheed is projecting delivery of the F-16s by Oct 2001. The company's Dr600 billion ($1.95 billion) contract cost less than Boeing Co's competing offer of 36 F-15H Strike Eagle aircraft at Dr732 billion.
