Article Abstract:
There have been criticisms of the Orange Order and similar organizations in Northern Ireland, but Ruth Dudley Edwards, who has studied them, sees them in a more positive light. She criticises their darker side, but also sees them as being comprised of hardworking people who are conscious of responsibilities. She argues that republicans should invite the Orange Order to march in Garvaghy Road, a republican area, and then that the order should decline. She also sees the Orange Order's most hopeful future role as expressing Protestant values in Northern Ireland.

Article Abstract:
Former US senator, George Mitchel, has traveled to Northern Ireland to help with the peace process which has stalled on the issues of disarmament. The Ulster Unionists were persuaded by Mitchell to agree to a previous compromise. The British and Irish prime ministers cannot afford to invest too much time in Northern Ireland. There is concern that the issue of disarmament has come up repeatedly, with the Unionists not willing to share power unless the IRA agrees to disarm.
