Guns or refugees - an unequal alliance?
Article Abstract:
Western countries involved in the war in Yugoslavia have contributed in different ways, with some contributing more to the military operations, and others taking large numbers of refugees. Germany is one country which has taken an exceptionally large number of refugees, and its contribution to the military operation has not been as great as the United Kingdom, which has taken far fewer refugees. France and the UK have been criticised for taking few refugees, though they have contributed aircraft, ships and ground troops.

Checks and balances
Article Abstract:
Adjustment to changes in the culture of institutions and defense doctrines takes place slowly, while the security environment can change rapidly. This has been a problem for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which has become involved in the conflict in Yugoslavia. The conflict has meant that the tasks that NATO had planned to take on will be reassessed, and the immediate issue is seeking to conclude the intervention in Yugoslavia in a satisfactory way.
