HIMATSINGKA SEIDE: S(ILK) FOR SUCCESS
Article Abstract:
Himatsingka Seide Ltd (HSL) produces silk fabrics, premium furnishings and silk dress materials. This Rs63 crore, 100 percent export oriented unit has invested Rs46.20 crore and set up a 410 million tonnes per annum spun silk and blended yarn unit, to be called Himatsingka Filatti, in technical collaboration with Filatti Buratti Spa of Italy. It has also decided to invest Rs28.50 crore and set up a weaving unit called Himatsingka Wovens to produce cotton and blended fabrics. HSL posted a net profit of Rs24.63 crore on revenues of Rs59.49 crore in 1997-98 against a net profit of Rs22.55 crore on revenues of Rs58.75 crore in 1996-97. Its scrip is currently trading at Rs140. (khr)

SUNDARAM FINANCE: FINANCING PROFITABLY

The gross mobilisation of Sundaram Finance has touched Rs386 crore in 1997-98 of which Rs175 crore was fresh deposits. Crisil has given the company an FAAA rating while ICRA has given a MAAA rating. It specialises in truck and passenger car financing. Its disbursements have decreased to Rs956 crore in 1997-98 from Rs1,041 crore in 1996-97. It posted a net profit of Rs76.58 crore on an income of Rs431.19 crore in 1997-98 against a net profit of Rs68.67 crore on an income of Rs391 crore in 1996-97. It gave an earnings per share of Rs31.91 in 1997-98. It has tied-up with Winterthur Swiss Insurance of Switzerland to enter the general insurance sector. (khr)
