Habits of violence
Article Abstract:
There are fears that there could be considerable violence in South Africa in the run-up to the country's second all-race election, particularly in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, which are not controlled by the ruling African National Congress (ANC). In the Western Cape, police have launched a campaign against the religious extremists who could pose a threat to the smooth running of the election. In KwaZulu-Natal, the long-standing conflict between the Inkatha party and the ANC has been complicated by the emergence of the United Democratic Movement.
