Zaha Hadid's winning design for theopera house in Cardiff, Wales, is inventive with the architectural style unique in the UnitedKingdom. Local officials and residents did not immediately welcome the design, primarily due tothe general public's dislike of modern architecture that does not adhere to the classic norm.Hadid's design incorporates an auditorium with an asymmetrical external form. The offices aremixed in with the rehearsal rooms.

The British public has responded well to being invited to review architectural practices in a scheme called 'Open Practice' during Architecture Week. Over eighty architectural firms in the United Kingdom opened their businesses to the public in Nov 1998 to promote public understanding of architectural services. Public visitors were encouraged to enquire about various aspects of an architect's work.
