Haitians turn their backs on president Preval - and politics
Article Abstract:
Parliamentary elections have been postponed in Hait, and there has been a paralysis in government, with a delay in passing budgets, and so in the receipt of foreign money. Loans and aid to Haiti have dropped, and Haiti has serious economic problems. There is a high level of formal unemployment, and drug trafficking appears to be increasingly important in the economy. Voter turnout could be low when an election is finally held, since Haitians have become disenchanted with the idea that political change can bring progress.
