Investigating investment
Article Abstract:
Conventional measures of investment seem to indicate that the US has invested a significantly smaller proportion of its GDP than western European countries in the 1990s. However, these measures of investment are misleading. When investment is defined more broadly, it is seen that US investment has actually been higher than the average for wealthy countries. Conventional statistics have become increasingly unrepresentative as the importance of intangible investment in areas such as human capital has grown.
