Don't tame Hong Kong's press
Article Abstract:
The Hong Kong government intensifies its campaign against aggressive news reporting with the creation of an independent statutory council for limiting the privileges and authority of media members. The council which would be immuned from legal obligations, would be tasked with determining fines and the right to demand for a publication of an apology. The media industry denounced the formation of the council, citing its potential in undermining the role of news reporters in addressing various social problems.
