Hands on
Article Abstract:
The electronic quartz watch offers reliable and inexpensive time-keeping. However, many people still prefer to use a watch that requires some participation from them. There is strong interest in the watches of George Daniels, widely regarded as the greatest living watch maker, and in hand-made sculptural clocks such as those made by Martin Burgess and Andrew King. Collectors do not mind that hand-crafted clocks and watches will never be as accurate as an atomic clock.

Across a gap in Darien
Article Abstract:
The governments of Panama and Colombia would like to complete the Pan-American Highway that runs from Alaska to Panama, and from Colombia to the Straits of Magellan. The road would pass through a dense jungle called Darien. Environmentalists are sure to protest.
