The Democratic and the Republican parties have a firm grasp on US politics. Small independent parties have had very little success in obtaining votes in spite of the general disenchantment felt by US citizens. Throughout the years the Republican and Democratic parties have become more alike and less ideological.

Britain stands alone
Article Abstract:
Every European nation except Great Britain is allowing local governments more control. In Italy local authorities can set income, property and road taxes, and in Germany they can veto national laws. France, Spain, Norway, Sweden and Denmark are also discussed.
