Heineken sets path for growth within Spain
Article Abstract:
Heineken NV has reached an agreement to acquire Diageo PLC's 88% share of Grupo Cruzcampo SA. Heineken acquired the share for 570 million pound sterling (872.9 million euros). The deal strengthens Heineken's position in Spain's beer market. Spain is the third-largest beer market in Europe. The acquisition must first be approved by European regulators. Heineken, which already owns a controlling interest in the El Aguila brand, will have almost 40% of the Spanish market if the deal pushes through.
