The pound fell to its lowest level since 1993 against the German mark in Feb 1994, apparently in response to currency traders' fears about the stability of John Major's Conservative government. Chancellor Kenneth Clarke may be forced to raise interest rates to support the pound.

Article Abstract:
It is important that the UK keep inflation in check, and Chancellor of the Exchequer Kenneth Clarke must be stalwart in sustaining economic recovery. He should increase the tax base and end mortgage interest deductions. An independent central bank is a good idea.
