The German economy has performed consistently well since the 1960's, with growth rates in excess of 20% in each decade. Free-market advocates continue to believe that the economy is theoretically unsound. The five supply-side economic problems besetting the nation are detailed.

Germany is experiencing a economic recovery in the mid 1990s, after suffering from the effects of a recession in the early 1990s. However, some pessimists point to increased labor costs and a reliance on heavy industry as signs that the recovery might not last.
