Hong Kong's new kingmaker
Article Abstract:
Industrialist-trader Henry Fok has maneuvered himself to the top of Hong Kong's provisional government, acting as adviser to administrator Tung Che Hwa. Fok's humble beginnings in Hong Kong's economic circles began with his acquisition of a surplus tugboat which started his trading business. He admits to a shady past of trading in embargoed goods during the Korean War, but only in steel, rubber and food. His businesses have prospered to include real estate developments, one of his projects being the commercial-industrial development in the Pearl River Delta. Fok believes China should emulate Hong Kong to foster its development.
