Aluminium building
Article Abstract:
Aluminium was first produced commercially in 1886 and world production was just 3,000 tonnes a year by 1900. An early use was in the casting of the angel of mercy statue in Picadilly Circus in 1892. It was first specified as a frame for curtain walling by Holabird & Root in Milwaukee in 1928. Aluminium is light, strong, durable and easy to form and shape, and is also suited to recycling. Aluminium in built up roofing and cladding accounts for nearly 90% of the market, as it has good weathering properties, and is classified as non-combustible.
