The row over oil drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) has been heightened by the terrorist attacks on the US and resulting fears over supplies of oil from Muslim countries. Environmentalists oppose drilling in the ANWR, and claim it would make little real impact.

The Sep 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on the US has highlighted the dangers of the world's growing dependence on Middle Eastern oil. A supply-shock seems a very real possibility, and governments should seek to rebuild stockpiles.
