How the experts see it; divided they stand
Article Abstract:
Four portfolio managers and investment officers chosen by the Far Eastern Economic Review have diverse predictions for 1996 and lead funds with varied portfolios. The panel generally remains bullish on Hong Kong, and to a lesser extent it favors Japan and Thailand. On specifics in those areas, and in general elsewhere, members disagree on short-term prospects. The panel included HSBC Asset Mgmt's Graham Muirhead, Asian Hedge Fund's William Kaye, ImPac Asset Mgmt's Walter Wu, and IDS Fund Mgmt's Elizabeth Tran.

The Review contest; three experts place their $100,000 bets
Article Abstract:
Three Hong Kong fund managers attempted to pick Asia's top market and specific stocks for the first quarter of 1996. Paul O'Donnell of BT Fund Managers expects Thailand to do best, naming two finance companies, a bank, and a property developer. Bill Wong of HSBC Mgmt agrees on Thailand, but looks to a bank, a finance company, a power utility, and a mobile telephone operator. Guinness Flight Asia's Nerissa Lee picks Hong Kong, naming four residential property developers that can thrive as interest rates fall.

The Review contest: three experts place their $100,000 bets
Article Abstract:
Two new Hong Kong fund managers select a market and, within it, three blue-chip stocks and a wild card, in an effort to best the returning champion. Nerissa Lee of Guinness Flight Asia won in 1996's first quarter with a pick of Hong Kong, beating out HSBC Asset Management's Bill Wong and BT Fund Managers' Paul O'Donnell. Lee will stick with Hong Kong, betting heavily on Sime Darby, while HSBC's Ching Ju Yeh wagers on Taiwan and Peregrine Asset Management's Gary Greenberg goes with India.
