How to use the SFA/92
Article Abstract:
The Standard Form of Agreement (SFA) can be used for the traditional type of agreement and for employment by either the employer or the contractor on a design and build contract. There are four parts to be used in each case. The memorandum of agreement can be executed either as a simple contract or as a deed. The conditions of appointment are basically similar to the old Architect's Appointment but changes should be noted. The four schedules also require care in completion. Employers may be reluctant to use the SFA and architects should take care to understand the documents.

Prime Cost Contract update
Article Abstract:
The Standard Form of Prime Cost Contract 1992 (PCC92) replaces the Fixed Fee Form of Prime Cost Contract of 1967. The new form of contract contains several improvements but has missed other opportunities for clarification. The form should be used in cases where the extent of work cannot be defined accurately and allows architects to issue instructions during the course of the work. Provisions for sectional completion, review of progresss and architect's agreement to subcontract terms are also made.
