Hyundai Motor breaks ground on its first European car plant

Hyundai Motor Company Ltd. has begun construction on its first car manufacturing plant in Europe. Located in the Czech Republic, the plant is expected to be operational in 2009 . It is also located near the Slovak-based plant of Hyundai's Kia Motors affiliate, and the two firms qualify for bypassing a European Union 10% tariff levied on vehicles imported from outside the EU.

Sanofi buys stake in Czech generic-drug maker

Sanofi-Aventis S.A. of France has purchased a 24.9 percent stake in Zentiva N.V. of the Czech Republic for 430 million Euros ($516 million). Zentiva N.V. is a generic drug maker and this industry is consolidating.

Pliva's directors back Barr's bid of $2.43 billion
