INDIAN CLONES OF VIAGRA TO HIT MARKET SOON
Article Abstract:
Indian pharmaceutical companies are developing a cheaper version of the Viagra pill for treating male impotence. This has forced Pfizer Inc of US, the producer of the pill, to postpone its plans to launch Viagra in the domestic market. Pfizer's market share may be eroded if Indian firms export sildenafil citrate, an active ingredient of Viagra in bulk. Orchid Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd, Chennai, has developed an alternative process to produce sildenafil citrate. It plans to export 40 tonnes of sildenafil citrate. Cipla, Ranbaxy Laboratories and Dr Reddy's Laboratories have applied to the Drug Controller of India for permission to introduce sildenafil citrate. (khr) >EN
