INDICA BOOKING TO OPEN ON JAN 14
Article Abstract:
Telco proposes to start the booking for the Indica, its small car, from January 14, 1999. The Indica can run on a 70:30 diesel- petrol mix. It will be introduced in Mumbai on December 30, 1998. Telco plans to open the bookings only for 10 days, as it proposes to produce 10,000 cars during 1998-99. It will start commercial production of the Indica in the first week of January 1999 and will start its delivery from the first week of February 1999. The Indica will be available in 4 versions - 2 standard ones running on petrol and diesel and 2 upmarket versions of the diesel model. Initially, Telco will produce 250 vehicles per day. It may raise this to 500 cars per day, if the demand increases. (ag)

MERCEDES BENZ VANS MAKE SMOOTH INROADS

Mercedes Benz India Ltd (MBIL) plans to commence marketing its 15 seater van/minibus, MB 140. It sold 50 MB 140s during its test drive in September 1998. It plans to introduce a 12 seater family version of the MB 140 called the MB 100.. The MB140 costs Rs14 lakh and the MB100 Rs13 lakh. Both will are fitted with a 2.9 litre, 95 hp diesel engine with a maximum speed of 135 kmph. Other features include reclining seats, baggage space, jacks for phones and fax machines and two air conditioners. The vehicles are specially designed for the Asian market in collaboration with Daimler Benz and Ssangyong Motor Corporation of Korea. (nr)
