Compared to today's generation (Alcatel's 1000 ASAM), the fourth generation of Alcatel platforms for DSL services offers an ASAM capacity (ATM Subscriber Access Multiplexer) five times higher. Dedicated to businesses, the platform is capable of serving up to 2,500 lines from one single subscriber interface. Compatible with all DSL technologies available, multiplle phone channels over DSL, etc. the platform is used for high speed data, voice and video transmission applications.

GERMANY: ALCATEL, KPNQWEST BEAT SPEED RECORD

Alcatel and KPNQwest have beaten a speed record on a 160-km distance in Germany, between Frankfurt and Gernsheim. Using Alcatel's Optimex 1640 optical platform and a M160 router from Juniper Networks, the two companies have managed a 40-GBPS transmission speed over several channels. This is the first time that an Internet protocol connection reaches a speed four times above compared to any European link.
