Ice cream wars
Article Abstract:
The British ice cream industry is to be investigated by the Competition Commission. The market for impulse purchases is worth 400 million pounds sterling, and there have been allegations of a wide range of incentives offered to distributors. Unilever's Birds Eye Wall's holds a 70% stake in this market and its competitors include Nestle and Mars. The practice of loaning freezers to retailers with the condition that only Wall's products are stocked is likely to be banned in Britain, following a European Commission decision.
