In Asia, online shopping faces some obstacles not shared in U.S
Article Abstract:
Online shopping is unlikely to become as fashionable in Asia as it is in the US. One important reason for this is that the computer density of Asia is much smaller than in the US. Other factors that might hobble the industry's growth are the lack of specialized web sites, Asian discomfort with credit cards and the expense of distribution across borders. The competitive price levels of Asian shopping areas would, of course, be another key factor since the lack of bargains on the Internet is likely to deter many Asians from shopping online.

Taiwan's REIT market gets off to a slow start; goal is to boost urban areas and building industry, but many restrictions exist
Article Abstract:
Rules established by the Taiwan Finance Ministry on May 17, 1999 are designed to start real estate investment trusts (REITs) in the hope of improving its troubled construction industry. Finance and real-estate executives believe that the move will result in urban development. However, the move is being delayed by various restrictions. A major limitation is that REITs have been confined to the comparatively narrow area of urban-renewal projects.
