The UK market for in-line skates has grown rapidly, with 1996 sales amounting to 27 million pounds sterling, representing 450,000 units. Sales are divided evenly between those sold through toy outlets and those sold through specialist and sports retailers. Leading players in the market include Canada's Bauer with a 27% share, Italy's Roces with a 9% share and U.S.-based Inliners with a 7% share. It is expected that the market will reach some 30 million pounds sterling by 2000.
