In praise of infidelity
Article Abstract:
The females of a wide range of species may have multiple mates and have the offspring of more than one father in just one brood. This can bring a number of advantages such as more paternal care, an increased number of gifts, and greater access to territory. Promiscuity can lead to more offspring being produced in the case of pseudoscorpions. The number of abortions is reduced as a result of females being able to select compatible sperm more easily when they have more than one mate. It is difficult to tell how far this example can be extrapolated to other species, such as humans.

Pluto out in the cold
Article Abstract:
There is a debate on whether Pluto should be classed as a planet. Pluto is composed of ice and is smaller than many planetary moons. Pluto is light, and estimates of its mass have been revised downwards. Pluto has a moon, but so do some asteroids. A mission is planned to leave for Pluto in 2004, and will arrive there after a decade. Astronomers wish to increase their knowledge of Pluto, whether it comes to be classed as a planet or another type of body.
