Article Abstract:
There is a danger that financial contagion could affect Brazil and currencies in Latin America have suffered pressure. The exchange rate peg used by Brazil has reduced inflation rates, but there is a danger that Brazil could be forced to devalue after having spent resources on defending its currency. Brazil deserves aid from the International Monetary Fund, which also has to be careful not to squander resources. Brazil should allow the currency to fall if measures to support it do not work.
