In search of a European model of strategic management
Article Abstract:
A study into the methods of strategic management by middle managers, in France and Germany, concluded that there was some disparity between managers in the two countries. In regard to outcome of their strategy, managers in France and Germany were often found to have some correlation but they differed in the way they considered their plans should be achieved. The findings of the study will have implications for joint ventures between businesses in France and Germany. The study was based on the opinions of the 101 German and 165 French managers who responded to a questionnaire.

Delivering differentiation: building winning enterprises
Article Abstract:
Many companies are now attempting to boost their competitiveness by becoming more customer-focused. However, they often fail to see customer focus as a key element of their business, and see customer focus fail in the market. It can be argued that there is a clear difference between a company which is customer-focused and one which is customer-driven. The latter allows its services to be determined by customer needs, and is willing to make constant changes in order to adapt to customer requirements.

Spinning steel into gold: the case of Ispat International N.V
Article Abstract:
Steel manufacturer Ispat International N.V., which is incorporated in the Netherlands, headquartered in London, England, and owned by LNM Group, has seen rapid expansion during the 1990s. A large part of this growth has come from acquisitions, including that of Inland Steel, the sixth-largest steel manufacturer in the US, on Jul 16, 1998. An investigation of the management approaches used at Ispat indicates that being focused, delegating and acting rapidly can be extremely effective.
