In the eye of the beholder
Article Abstract:
University of Washington researcher, Tom Furness, has developed a 'virtual retinal display' (VRD) at the university's interface technology laboratory. The VRD is a system mounted on the head which sends an image to the retina. The system is being developed for a range of applications such as flight simulators and gaming systems. The invention is being commericalized by Microvision, which aims to develop a more compact device, and is also developing prototypes to be used for military purposes.

There are a number of applications, including digital wallpaper, and electronic paper which could be used for storing libraries. Clothing could also be dyed using digital ink which could allow designs to change as users changed their moods.
