This year's meeting of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species rejected China's request to allow 'harvesting and farming' of tigers. However, given the demand for oriental delicacies such as tiger-bone wine and penis aphrodisiacs, harvesting may be the only solution to rampant poaching.

Some photography purists believe Kodachrome beats more modern color films, though it takes 18 photochemical process to develop. Now amateur chemist and photographer Richard Mackson has invented a smaller, quicker and less expensive kodachrome-processing machine.

Things that go flash in the night
Article Abstract:
The Mar 1999 observation of a flash of light from a distant galaxy shows that it might be useful to have ordinary optical telescopes monitoring the whole sky continuously. This might improve research into 'transient' objects.
