India's Securities and Exchange Board has announced plans to introduce real estate investment trusts as early as 2008, indicating potential deregulation of the nation's rapidly growing real estate market. However, recent launches of REITs in the UK and Germany have not fared well, due in part to turmoil in the credit market, underscoring the possible risks India's REITs may face.

Housing market in U.K. still slow as lending pales
