The purpose and self-image of the university is undergoing a transformation. Due to the success of science in advancing technology and a growing demand for higher education among the masses, governments are increasing higher education funding. Increases in public money may erode the university's autonomy.

Common knowledge: a national curriculum
Article Abstract:
The Core Knowledge Foundation of Charlottesville, VA, are hoping to change the US from being virtually the only industrialized nation without a national curriculum. The Foundation is working with teachers to develop guidelines for grades one through six that can hopefully be applied nationwide.
