As the region suffers, job openings boom in Australia: buoyed business optimism ushers in work opportunities in technology and export sectors
Article Abstract:
An agile business environment in Australia provided the unique opportunity for the country to largely avoid the effects of the Asian currency crisis and improve its exports to other markets, which resulted in an employment boom in the country. More than 200,000 jobs were created in the country as of Sept. 1998, with about 140,000 of those jobs full-time. This compares with only 18,200 full-time jobs created in the same period in 1997. Australia's labor market is in dire need of workers in the technology and export manufacturing sectors.
