Increasing demand for promotion of Internet-related companies has led Asian public relations firms to become quite detailed in choosing their clients. Over 80% of Asian PR firms have Internet clients, while 13% get more than half their business from so-called "New Economy' firms. Ogilvy Public Relations, Shandwick International and Soundbuzz Proprietary Ltd are discussed along with the general shortage of experienced public relations services.

Internet sites seeking payment amounts too small for credit card transactions may turn to payment methods used by sites in Asia, where most consumers do not wish to give credit card information online. Micropayments and other transactions can be collected at convenience stores or through mobile phone bills.

Consolidation looms for telecom firms

Due to the licensing of too many telecommunications operators in Asia, consolidation in the markets of South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia is expected over the next twelve months. Competition among companies has driven down prices so far that many companies can no longer profit. In addition, due to the global economic downturn, funding is harder to come by.
