Investors seek strategy answers from BAA chief

BAA PLC is expected to post flat earnings for the first quarter of 1999. Investors will be seeking strategy comments from the company's new chief executive, Mike Hodgkinson. BAA is expected to post approximately 154 million pound sterling (233.4 million euros) in pretax profits for the quarter.

BAA's profit seen hurt by pound, rail service losses

BAA PLC posted only a slight improvement in its pretax profits for the year ending in March 1999. The company was hurt by the ongoing Asian economic crisis, as well as by losses in pounds and from its Heathrow Express rail service. BAA posted earnings of 509 million pound sterling (782.8 million euros) for the full year. In 1998, the company posted 480 million pound sterling in earnings.
