Efforts by the US Treasury Department to recover assets held by deposed dictator Saddam Hussein may negatively impact restitution previously granted to Kuwaiti victims of Hussein's invasion of that country in 1990. The Development Fund for Iraq, established by the United Nations, may siphon funds despite a US federal court order supporting Kuwaiti claims.

Ruling by U.S. Supreme Court favors BPAmoco in gas dispute

BP Amoco PLC's Amoco Corp. has prevailed in a dispute over natural gas claimed by a Colorado Indian tribe with a 7-1 ruling by the United States Supreme Court. The methane gas reserves, which are part of the coal deposits owned by the Southern Ute Indian tribe, will bring millions of dollars in royalties to land owners in Colorado.

Former American prisoners of war from the 1991 Gulf War were awarded almost $1 billion (883.1 million euros) in claims by a U.S. court. However, the costs of Iraq's reconstruction from the 2003 Iraq war diminish the chances of such claims being paid.
