Issues for joint ventures in India
Article Abstract:
Foreign investors tend to opt for joint ventures with local partners when investing in India, although it is not a legal necessity to do so. The tax laws are no different for companies which are owned abroad. Local partners used to be necessary because the system was complicated and they knew who to contact. This is no longer the case. However, a local partner has access to distribution channels, has a manufacturing set up and already has customers so this allows foreign investors to get started more quickly. They themselves bring new technology and money.
