Internet rage hits region; venture capitalists seek high-tech start-ups
Article Abstract:
Asia is witnessing a trend toward start-up business enterprises in the high-technology sector, with hundreds of companies sprouting in the region in 1998. The trend is driven by enormous amounts of venture capital, massive government support, the example of rising US technology stocks and the world's fastest growing Internet market, China. However, these start-ups still face a host of problems, such as a dearth of chief technology officers as well as marketing and sales personnel familiar with the business and the challenge of fitting US concepts into the vastly different Asian business environment.

City loses out on valuable Internet sales opportunities
Article Abstract:
Analysts say that electronic commerce and Internet sales services have not been fully utilized and accepted in Hong Kong by both businesses and ordinary consumers. The apprehension of utilizing the technology is costing firms in terms of expenses and lost businesses opportunities. Most firms have already used Internet advertising but have declined to utilize other advantages such as online sales, transactions, and ordering from suppliers. Forecasts place total Internet commerce revenues to reach some $37 million in 1998 and increase to $1.3 billion by the year 2001.
