Article Abstract:
A planned merger between Monsanto and American Home Products (AHP) has been abandoned and analysts see the failure of the merger in terms of differences in corporate cultures as well as rivalry between executives. The merger appeared beneficial in a number of ways. Monsanto includes Searle, its pharmaceuticals division, while AHP has an agricultural products division, as well as strengths in marketing and sales, and over-the-counter products. Both companies suffered drops in their stock prices when the decision to abandon the merger was announced.
