It's England's oil too
Article Abstract:
The Scttish National Party (SNP) has argued that Scotland could finance its independence from petroleum resources. It is also argued that Scotland would not suffer a revenue shortfall from independence, though more United Kingdom government funds go to Scotland than is paid by Scotland in taxes. There are problems in establishing where Scottish waters lie, but the proportion of tax revenues from the North Sea accounted for by Scotland is lower than realised, and revenue from petroleum resources may not compensate for a loss of revenue from the UK.
