Japan Inc. goes bust
Article Abstract:
The Japanese public's distrust of its own government reflects the real state of Japan's economy. This state of affairs existing in the country can be traced back to the sorry status of the country's public finances. Among the shocking revelations is the news that Japan is teetering on the verge of bankruptcy as manifested by gross public debt that is calculated to reach 120% of the gross domestic product (GDP) by the year 2000. Other public finance scandals include the insolvency of post office savings accounts and a budget deficit ranging from 9% to 11% of GDP by 2000.
