Japan Tobacco acquires Gallaher for $15 billion

The UK tobacco firm Gallaher Group PLC was purchased by Japan Tobacco Inc. in a deal totaling $15 bil, the largest overseas acquisition ever by a Japanese company. Shares were acquired at 1,140 pence per share. The acquisition strengthens Japan's presence in the Western European market.
