Journey beyond the stars
Article Abstract:
Economists are increasingly crossing academic borders into other social sciences such as sociology, and they include Casey Mulligan and Caroline Hoxby. Steve Levitt has examined crime levels and imprisonment. Theory and empirical effort are tending to mingle. The insights of economics may not be fully understood for some time by professionals in other fields, so the work of new economists may take a while to have an impact. The revitalization of economics could come about from this new research.

The law is an ass
Article Abstract:
Economists argue that there are good reasons for prosecuting bystanders who fail to provide help when it is needed. There has tended to be a focus on the benefits of free markets in the type of economics usually married to law. Insider trading is not seen as harmful, according to a view combining law and economics. Corruption is seen as harmful to economic growth, while property rights are seen as important. A reduction in tax rates is seen as one way to reduce corruption.
