Judgmental modeling as a tool for analyzing market structure: an application in the plastics industry
Article Abstract:
This article indicates how judgmental modeling, when combined with the use of word-models, can be used as a tool for analyzing market structure. It is based on a sample of buyers in a sector of the plastics industry in Europe. The study shows how data collected with this approach can be used both to assess attribute importance and as an input to perceptual mapping. The results have been of immediate use to the firm involved, and the approach is potentially applicable across a range of industrial market environments. (Reprinted by permission of the publisher.)

Not just kids' stuff
Article Abstract:
The European Union (EU) may place a ban on toys containing polyvinyl chloride after a report claimed young children could be at risk from the plastic. The ban would seriously effect the toy industry of Asia, which exports up to $6.5 billion worth of toys into the EU each year. Asia claims it must be given time and financial assistance to meet the EU requirements, with some Asian trade officials believing the ban is part of a ploy to decrease trade.
