Juggernaut's speed worries some passengers
Article Abstract:
International trade among Asian countries continues to intensify, spurring tremendous economic growth in the region. The increased intra-Asian trade is also promoting greater self-reliance among the top Asian trading nations. However, several economists warned that the countries experiencing rapid growth could suffer from economic overheating. A discussion of the economic prospects in Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines is presented.

Yen's rise prompts economists to revise their forecast for Asia
Article Abstract:
Economic experts believe that the surging value of the Japanese yen will have a positive impact on many Asian economies, especially those with industries directly competing with Japanese firms. As a result, many economists are being forced to change their previous economic growth forecasts to reflect different current-account and monetary-policy assumptions. Some analysts also believe, on the other hand, that the strong yen will force many Asian governments to raise interest rates, thus resulting in lower growth.

Yen's rise is seen in Asia as a double-edged sword
Article Abstract:
The growing value of the Japanese yen has benefited its Asian neighbors, many of whom saw an increase in exports and foreign investment. However, some experts are warning that the continued rise of the yen can also induce inflation and have a multiplying effect on the debt burden of some Southeast Asian nations. Other economists downplay such concerns, saying that the potential effect of the yen on public debt is overstated.
