UK soldiers have deservedly won a reputation for being good peacekeepers, but Tony Blair's plans for a UK peacekeeping force in Afghanistan have met with caution both at home and abroad. Many people believe the situation in Afghanistan is very different to that in the Balkans.

Osama bin Laden has much foreign support, with Arabs coming from places including Egypt, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia to fight for him in Afghanistan. These foreigners have also been used to back Taliban forces and stop Afghan Taliban from defecting.
