KARNATAKA INDUSTRIAL AREAS DEVELOPMENT BOARD: BREEDING INDUSTRY
Article Abstract:
The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) promotes the development of industries in Katnataka. KIADB has acquired over 47,000 acres of land and has developed 70 industrial areas. Over 8,000 industrial units have been allotted in these areas. KIADB is setting up growth centres in Dharwad and Hassan at a cost of Rs120 crore. A growth centre is a self sufficient township with captive power, telecom links and all facilities. KIADB has built the Information Technology Park at Whitefield near Bangalore. It plans to set up a 350 acre Electronic City at the Hebbal Industrial Area in Mysore and the second phase of Export Promotion Industrial Park in Bangalore. The board has allotted over 300 acres of land in 26 industrial layouts to the Karnataka Electricity Board to set up substations. KIADB has also acquired land to set up power projects. It has developed schemes to provide water supply to industrial areas. It has invested Rs25 crore on improving the network of roads connecting industrial areas. (vv)

KARNATAKA ROAD POLICY HOLDS NO GUARANTEES FOR PROJECTS
Article Abstract:
Karnataka's new road policy does not provide for any guaranteed to road projects either directly or through escrow accounts. The government of Karnataka has allowed the promoters of the projects to fix and revise the tariff. The promoters can also collect and retain the amount received from the customer during the concession period. The policy is also offering all tax concessions applicable to an infrastructure projects. The government has however stated that all projects even those built on build-own-and-operate (BOO) basis will have to transfer their assets free of cost after the concession period. The state government will be taking up equity in partially non viable projects. The new policy is aimed at widening the state highways into two-lane highways. It also proposes to take up expressways and four-lane high traffic density corridors. (ag)

KARNATAKA TAKES ONE STEP FORWARD TO EMPOWER WOMEN DAIRY FARMERS

The government of Karnataka has initiated steps to involve women in the dairy sector. Mysore District Co-operative Milk Producers Societies Union (MYMUL) has announced that a Rs9.89 crore scheme will be implemented in all 27 districts of the state for a period of three years to benefit about 40,000 women. Under the scheme, about 500 societies will be formed all over the state. Mysore district alone will have about 13 societies. Under the programme, the state government has sanctioned Rs2 lakh to MYMUL for fodder development. MYMUL plans to develop 10-acre plot for fodder crops and will take assistance from thr Indian Crop and Fodder Research Institute at Dharwad. The Union is investing Rs1.5 crore to increase milk processing capacity to 150,000 litres per day (100,000 litres per day).(gs)
