DoT WRITES PLAN TO KEEP PVT OPERATORS RINGING
Article Abstract:
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Government of India proposes to offer certain concessions to the ailing basic and cellular telecom operators. The proposals include re- scheduling of the licence fee to allow for lowering of the initial licence fee installment, reducing the financial and performance bank guarantees by 25 percent and lowering the penal interest on late payment of fee. This rescue package is likely to be submitted to the group on telecommunications (GOT). The revenue collections of most of the operators have fallen below expectations and hence the remedial measures. (uh)
