KGI to take Thai stake: Taiwan bank to buy 51% share of Securities One
Article Abstract:
Taiwanese investment bank KGI Investments Asia Ltd. finalized negotiations for its purchase of a 51% stake in Thai brokerage firm Securities One PCL. The purchase is a growing trend in Asia where Asian and international investors are buying up shares in cash-strapped but viable banking and financial services firms in Asian countries. This is due to the effects of the Asian currency crisis, which increases the attractiveness of Asian firms to foreign investments due to low investment restrictions and the need for new capital.

JIMH chairman Anthony Nightingale dismissed the rumored franchise closure claiming full confidence for its partner. Observers, however claim otherwise sensing a Mercedes-Benz firm wanting a better partner to penetrate deep into China's automobile market.

Incentives, cost concerns spur foreign investors to move inland from China's coastal cities
Article Abstract:
China's coastal cities and special economic zones have traditionally been the primary destination of foreign investments, particularly those from Taiwan. However, foreign investors have begun to move out of China's coastal areas and have started to invest in the country's inland areas. Buoyed by the Chinese government's efforts to boost economic growth in the poor central areas, many investors hope to capitalize on the lower operating costs in such areas.
